Normalize quantity before comparing price
A unit price calculator divides each offer price by its quantity and expresses the results on one chosen basis. The operation is simple, but the inputs must share a unit. Comparing 750 grams with 1.2 kilograms as the raw numbers 750 and 1.2 would be meaningless. Convert first, then label the common basis.
This page deliberately does not convert units. That job belongs to the unit converter, where definitions are explicit. Here, every quantity field is labeled “in common unit,” and the visitor supplies a short unit label such as gram, kilogram, item, sheet, meter, or liter.
Formula and comparison basis
For each offer:
price per basis = price ÷ quantity × comparison basis
A basis of one gives price per one unit. A basis of 100 can make small mass or volume rates easier to read. Changing the basis scales every valid offer equally and does not change their order.
The table parses entered decimals as exact base-10 fractions, ranks the reduced rational rates, and only then formats currency for display. Two offers tie only when exact cross multiplication shows equal rates; there is no hidden epsilon and no tie created merely because two rounded displays look alike. For example, $1.00 for 3 units and $2.00 for 6 units produce the same rational rate and form one tie group.
The lowest rate becomes the baseline for absolute and relative gaps. If the lowest price is zero, a percentage gap is undefined and remains blank; the absolute difference can still be shown.
Worked package comparison
Suppose Offer A costs $6.30 for 750 grams and Offer B costs $9.60 for 1,200 grams. Both quantities are already in grams. Choose a comparison basis of 100 grams.
Offer A is 6.30 ÷ 750 × 100 = $0.84 per 100 grams. Offer B is 9.60 ÷ 1,200 × 100 = $0.80 per 100 grams. Offer B has the lower entered rate by $0.04 per 100 grams. Relative to the lower rate, Offer A is 5 percent higher because 0.04 ÷ 0.80 × 100 = 5.
If quantities are instead converted to 0.75 and 1.2 kilograms with a basis of one kilogram, the rates become $8.40 and $8.00. The ranking and relative gap remain the same. The example shows why the unit and basis should be copied with the number.
Worked count comparison
Offer C costs $4.50 for 18 items and Offer D costs $7.20 for 30 items. With item and basis one, the rates are $0.25 and $0.24 per item. The arithmetic favors D by one cent per item.
For a need of only ten items, the larger package may require more cash and leave unused items. The tool does not call D the better purchase. It reports normalized price and lets the visitor consider quantity needed, storage, waste, quality, terms, and other circumstances.
Labels and mixed contents
Optional labels make the result table easier to read but do not change the formula. Use non-sensitive short names. A pack containing “20 sheets plus 5 bonus sheets” should use the actual comparable quantity if all sheets are equivalent. A multipack with items of different sizes may not have one meaningful count rate.
Net quantity, drained weight, serving size, advertised count, and usable quantity can differ. Follow the definition relevant to the comparison. This local OnlineCalculator.xyz tool cannot read packaging or verify a seller’s statement.
Taxes, fees, coupons, and memberships
Enter the price that belongs in your comparison. The page does not know whether that should be shelf price, after-tax price, delivered price, member price, refundable-deposit amount, or a discounted first purchase. Compare like with like and record the basis.
Coupons with thresholds, subscriptions, loyalty points, financing, rebates, and future price changes are outside the model. A recurring subscription belongs to a different planning tool. This page does not link to a store, scan a barcode, retrieve live prices, or process payment.
Limits of the ranking
Lowest unit price is one arithmetic property. It does not measure quality, durability, concentration, nutrition, safety, environmental impact, ethical sourcing, warranty, authenticity, availability, convenience, or personal need. The output is not purchasing, financial, nutrition, or product advice.
Currency is a label. No exchange rate, tax system, or locale rule is selected. All offers must use the same currency or be converted using an appropriate current source first. Display rounding can make two close rates look alike, but ranking and tie detection use the exact entered decimals. Inspect the formulas and more displayed places, and verify an important comparison independently.
A reliable entry checklist
Confirm that every quantity is positive and uses the same unit. Choose a basis that creates readable results. Enter prices using the same inclusion rules. Check the substituted division for each row. Read absolute and relative gaps beside the actual package quantities. Copy price, quantity, unit, basis, and observation date if you keep the comparison.
