If two pages tie, their stable public catalog order decides the display. No personal behavior, popularity, advertising payment, click history, or prior visitor data changes the ranking. A calculator can only appear if its route is published and included in the local catalog.

An empty search is not an error. It shows all categories with concise input-and-result labels. A phrase with no overlap displays “No declared match” and offers to clear one filter. It never invents a route or silently forwards the visitor to a generic keypad.

Worked match: old value and new value

Enter “increase from old value to new value” and select percentages. The percentage-change card should rank above the three-way percentage calculator because its declared inputs are an old value and a new value, and its result is signed relative change. The match explanation names those tags.

Open the result and test an old value of 80 and a new value of 100. The change is 20, and the percentage change is 20 ÷ 80 × 100 = 25 percent. The directory did not calculate that value. It identified the page whose labels and formula fit the wording.

Now change the description to “24 is what percent of 60.” The ordinary percentage calculator should rise because the requested relationship is part ÷ whole × 100, not change relative to an old baseline. This distinction is a core reason to choose focused tools.

Worked match: list with unequal importance

Type “values with different weights.” The weighted-average page declares paired values and weights and returns row contributions plus a weighted mean. The ordinary average page declares one unweighted list. If you select “list of values” without a weight input, the simple summary page should rank first instead.

The result is not a claim that a weighted mean is statistically appropriate. It only matches the input structure. A visitor must determine whether the weights have a meaningful common basis.

What the directory cannot decide

It cannot interpret a photograph, spreadsheet, document, URL, account, or natural-language word problem beyond catalog tokens. It does not infer missing units, select a legal or scientific standard, choose significant figures, or verify that an entered formula represents reality. It cannot route medical, tax, investment, or regulated questions to a professional.

Search terms can be ambiguous. “Average price” might mean an unweighted mean, weighted average, or unit price. When more than one card appears, compare required inputs and the formula summary. The match order is a navigation aid, not mathematical authority.

The catalog also has deliberate gaps. It does not promise every calculator on the web. Unsupported symbolic algebra, complex numbers, matrices, probability models, and high-stakes personal calculations are not converted into misleading results.
